Types of Motivation:

The Psychologists have come up with the two major types of motivation under the influence of which, the employees work hard in a corporate firm. There is an intrinsic motivation and an extrinsic motivation. Simply put, the intrinsic motivation is the one under which a person performs well out of his personal and inborn lust for success. It can be out of sense of achievement or a hope of standing out of the crowd that he does well at the workplace. Those motivated intrinsically believe in their abilities and strive to attain their goals without relying on other factors. They always want to be at the top. The intrinsically motivated people usually become the CEO’s of the firms using their abilities.

On the other hand, the extrinsic motivation includes the external sources of motivation as in the form of reward, incentive, promotion etc.  Similarly, a person is said to be extrinsically motivated if he works hard just to avoid any punishment like demotion, firing from the job etc. According to the latest research, the over enforcement of extrinsic motivation leads to the reduction of intrinsic motivation. Most of the successful corporations around the globe tend to motivate their employees using on the basis of this psychological behavior of the employees. Since it is nothing tangible, sometimes, the application becomes very complex. However, the importance of the motivation types cannot be neglected as they do exist in the human nature depending upon the personal and social background.
