Types of Change

The management research has recognized various types of change in an organization. Since there are different levels of management and all the departments need equal attention of the management, change may be brought about at any level and in any department. The main types of change include Mission change which signifies the radical shift in the basic mission of the business. Then there can be a strategy change which is characterized by the change the way to achieve the goal. There may be more than one way to complete the organizational mission, so the technique may also be changed.

Operational or Structural change is another type of change. If the hierarchy of an organization is adapted according to the market needs, it is called operational change. Then is the technological change which is one of the most commonly practiced type of change these days. Owing to the technological advancement, if the management brings about an up gradation of the current system or introduces a whole new system, it is regarded as the technological change.  The last and the most difficult to manage is the initiating a change in the human behavior of employees. When the management tries to change the mind-set of the staff, it is a very tough task and comes under the ambit of change in human behavior. A manager may or may not need to bring all types of change in an organization. It all depends on what is required under the prevailing conditions.
