Designs of Business Model

The Business with respect to its design can be categorized in to two classes. The Design Theme and the Design content which are the two aspects of design of a business plan. When the emphasis is laid on the theme of the design, it is based on the Environment-Strategy-Structure-Operations (ESSO) framework proposed by Lim in 2010. The business design is aimed at attaining and maintaining the competitive advantage making good use of the internal as well as external resources of the business. The theory underlines the fact the firm’s strategy if integrated with the cost, time, quality and other innovative capabilities of the business can be best used to achieve the organizational goals.  On the other hand, the Design Content aspect considers the description and explanation of all the building blocks of the business.

That includes clear and elaborative account of the sources of funds, customers segments and the pricing models. This aspect pays more heed to the contents of the business plan rather than the formulation of strategy to attain the predetermined goals. It depends on the entrepreneur as to whichever aspect to use for the business plan development. The ideal situation would be in which both of them have been employed. This will bring clarity in the future operations of the business.  It also depends on the nature of the business as to which aspects to opt for.
